El
Valle de Antón Experience - PTE005
Take
a drive on the Pan-American Highway (the same and only
road that continues north to the U.S.) and climb to the cooler
mountain-climate of the picturesque town of El Valle
, nestled at 2700 feet, in the crater of an extinct volcano.
On this excursion we will get a feel of what rural life is
like in the Panamanian countryside. We will take a thirty-minute
walk through the local mountainous forest, point out some
of the most interesting plant life and end up at the beautiful
waterfall known as el Chorro Macho. Here we also can
view the system of suspended cables that is used by adventure
seekers to zip from tree to tree along a cable
on a pulley high above the forest floor. Then its off to the
village market where an array of hand-made crafts and local
produce are displayed, with a panoramic view of the majestic
4000 foot volcanic peaks of Cerro Gaital. After lunch
we will visit the local zoo where tropical animals can be
seen including tapirs, monkeys, and an array of birds. We
will also take a look at a remnant of past native cultures
at the "piedra pintada" petroglyph site and
then relax on the two hour drive back to Panama City.
This tour is recommended on Sundays as this is the best day
for arts and crafts/produce market but can de done any day
of the week. The zip line adventure (known as the Canopy Adventure)
is not included but can be purchased for an extra fee pending
availability.
Requires
a minimum of 2 people, includes lunch and entry fees to the
waterfall preserve and zoo.
Tour starts at 8:00 a.m. and returns approximately by 4:30
p.m.
